Debunking a Hateful Anti-Tattoo Facebook Page
Over the last couple weeks readers have been asking us about a Facebook community page by the name of “Your Tattoos Make You a Horrible Mother.” At first we ignored it under the assumption that it was merely an attempt to troll tattooed people into getting angry, which it most certainly is.
But when we saw that it had received over 25,000 likes and was being discussed by over 190,000 people, we felt like we needed to say something. In an era where people are apt to believe everything they read on the internet we felt that we couldn’t keep silent about this page any longer.
The claims that the site makes about tattooed mothers and tattoos in general are beyond ignorant, they are hurtful and one can argue hateful. None of the claims on the Facebook page have any basis in fact. Honestly, if a person has even a modicum of intelligence they can tell that the page is complete garbage.
Even if the page was made with parody in mind that line was crossed once they started questioning the parenting ability of tattooed mothers. That being said, please don’t react by filling up their page with angry comments. You have every right to be mad, that’s why we’re making an example of them right now. But we assume page’s whole goal is to get tattooed people to overreact, so please show that as a community we are above that.
Below we have gathered some of the page’s worst claims and will address them each individually.
