Everything you need to know about covering scars in ink

If you’re not already familiar with the pesky skin stripes that plague an estimated 80% of women, stretch marks are a form of scarring that is caused by the tearing of the dermis. They most commonly appear during times of rapid growth, such as puberty or pregnancy. There is no real evidence that any creams or pills can prevent stretch marks from occurring and many women, including celebrities like Chrissy Teigan, embrace the “flaws” God gave them. However, while we admire Teigan for boldly proclaiming pride for her stretch marks, not all women want their tiger stripes on full display. But luckily, there is a way to make them “disappear.” Tattooing over stretch marks is a great way to cover up any unwanted discoloration and to give your body new life. We picked and chose several tattoos inspired by stretch marks coverups in the gallery below and detailed our recommendations for the most common stretch mark zones on the body. Whether you’re rocking stripes on your hips, butt, back, or breasts—we’ve got you covered.
