Urban Meyer Plans Some Ink to Celebrate National Championship
Urban Meyer fulfills his promise to get a tattoo after leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Championship victory.
Forget going to Disneyland, Urban Meyer is headed to the tattoo parlor. Now that Meyer has coached his Ohio State Buckeyes to an unlikely National Championship he needs to make good on his promise to get some ink. Shortly after defeating heavily favored Alabama in the first round of the College Football Playoff Meyer promised his team that if they were able to get one more victory he would get a tattoo. What is not yet known is what kind of tattoo Meyer plans on getting. Luckily, we have some ideas.
The most straight forward idea is the simple Block O that a few of the football players have tattoos of already. “I’ll be here bugging him about it until he gets it,” Defensive End Joey Bosa told USA Today. “I’ll go with him, I’ve already got my block O.” There is something to be said for Meyer getting ink that matches the tattoos of some of his players but we think that he could do a bit better, perhaps get a little weird with it.
The tattoo that we would absolutely love Meyer to get would be a portrait of Ohio State superfan “Mr. Big Nut.” While you might not know him by name if you have ever watched Ohio State you know who we are talking about. He’s the big guy with the facepaint screaming at the camera. You know, this guy.
How great would it be if Meyer went to an artist like Nikko Hurtado and got a giant photorealistic portrait of him?
If that’s not Meyer’s style we were thinking that he could get some knuckle tattoos. It just so happens that “Buckeyes” would fit perfectly across the coach’s hands.
Maybe Meyer will want to get some ink that celebrates not just this title but also the two that he won while coaching the Florida Gators. What would be a better mashup than a tattoo of the Ohio State mascot, Brutus, “Tebowing?”
Or perhaps Meyer could use the tattoo as an excuse to take a shot at “That School Up North.” Now that Michigan has brought in Jim Harbaugh to reignite the rivalry Meyer can fan the flames by getting a derisive tattoo directed at the Wolverines. Perhaps Brutus beating up a Wolverine. Or an M with a circle and slash through it. The possibilities are endless.
We’re just really enthused to see that Meyer has chosen a tattoo as a way to celebrate his team’s victory. One has to wonder if he thought his team really had a chance to win it all when he made his promise or if the promise of the straight-laced coach getting a tattoo provided a little bit of extra motivation for his players. Regardless, we love the idea that he’s going to get inked and hope that he doesn’t back down from his promise. Don’t worry, once we see what Meyers ends up choosing—oh please let it be the portrait of Mr. Big Nut—we will share it with the world.

Hooked on Ink
Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
