British model and actress Lily Collins was the picture of perfection in the gold sequin Saint Laurent dress with the plunging neckline she wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in Beverly Hills last Sunday night, and we couldn’t help but notice that, in addition to some serious leg and cleavage, her risqué gown also revealed a brand-new ribcage tattoo. Lily Collins’ new tattoo is inked on her left side, just below her armpit, and features a black and white image of a fairy sitting astride a crescent moon, with the phrase “fragile thing” inked next to it in a tiny text.
This isn’t the first tattoo for Lily Collins, who has added quite a few pieces to her collection over the years, all of which hold important meanings for the 26-year-old. In addition to her “fragile thing” fairy tattoo, the daughter of singer Phil Collins and former model Jill Tavelman also has a “Love Always and Forever” tattoo inked on her upper back, a wrist piece featuring a heart with wings and a crown, and an English rose tattooed on her right foot with the phrase, “the nature of this flower is to bloom.”
According to Lily, “The tattoo on my wrist is a combination of a British crown, angel wings, a heart and the initials LJ. It’s very delicate. My mom and I went and got [tattoos] together—they’re not matching, but we got them done at the same time.” Lily Collins has yet to reveal the significance of her fairy and crescent moon ribcage tattoo, but there are a few possible explanations for the fairytale-style ink. As for her foot tattoo, Lily says, “There’s a single petal falling off [the rose] to symbolize that I may look delicate, but I’m as strong as a rose.”
One thing that came to mind when we saw Lily’s new side tattoo was the Big Country song “Fragile Thing,” which has to do with love and loss, and features the chorus, “Love is a small and fragile thing / I spend a lot of cold nights missing you / Keep it in your hands or let it take wing / I spend a lot of cold nights missing you.” As for who Lily Collins might be missing, we’re not entirely sure. There were rumors circulating last spring that the actress had reunited with former flame Jamie Campbell Bower, whom she had previously dated for a year, but then the two broke it off again later that year, which had Lily commenting on Instagram, “When one door closes, another one opens. No matter what, always leave room for a little love when stepping out and in #livedeeplylovehard.”
Back in August 2013, after calling it quits with Bower the first time, Lily had this to say to her young female fans: “My advice for girls who are waiting for their Prince Charming is to be open for anything. Be open to new experiences, be open to the idea that it may take longer than you want, but if you’re open to meeting new people and new adventures, then love will come along.” But, be aware too, love is a “fragile thing!”

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
