A Collision of Punk Artists
April is a month filled with a bunch of fake holidays. Easter aside, you’ve got 4/20, Earth Day, and of course Record Store Day, which is basically any music nerd’s Christmas.
April is a month filled with a bunch of fake holidays. Easter aside, you’ve got 4/20, Earth Day, and of course Record Store Day, which is basically any music nerd’s Christmas. But this year Record Store Day was host to the release of a cross-medium collab between Vice Records signed band OFF! and Obey Clothing’s Shepard Fairey. For those of you who don’t know OFF!, they’re a super group punk band featuring members from bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Redd Kross. For the limited release of their 7-inch single “Learn to Obey” they worked with artist Shepard Fairey (the guy who also designed the Obama “Hope” poster) to bring the single’s album sleeve to life. With an aesthetic inspired by Raymond Pettibon, the image received such positive feedback from fans that the band and Fairey decided to release limited edition posters and T-shirts of the artwork via Obey Clothing. Posters and shirts can be found at OFF! shows’ merch tables, or you can order your own shirt via the Obey Clothing website starting April 30th. And be sure to check out OFF!’s performance tonight at The Roxy in Hollywood where they will debut the release of these brand new products.
