The Creature From the Black Lagoon Got a 21st Century Makeover

When it comes to the 90th annual Oscars ceremony, for the first time in history horror reigned supreme. Generally set aside from the high profile awards ceremonies, this often misunderstood genre took home big titles such as Best Picture, Best Original Screen Play, and Best Director. The films that shined in these categories were ‘Get Out,’ directed by Jordan Peele and ‘The Shape of Water,’ directed by Guillermo del Toro. Take a look at how the latter film pulled inspiration from one of the greatest horror tropes in cinema history in the gallery below, then let us know what you thought of last night’s Oscar ceremony as well as the two films discussed today.
