Urban legends have existed in cultures around the world since the beginning of time, however, the internet and social media has allowed these stories to become more dangerous than ever. For example, Slender Man began as a harmless internet meme created by Creepypasta, however, stories about his supernatural powers led two 12-year-old girls from Wisconsin to stab their friend in 2014. The latest internet urban legend to break onto mainstream news is known as Momo and it’s already shaping up to be one of the deadliest hoaxes of the decade.
