In 2012, the reality documentary series My 600-lb Life premiered on TLC. Since it’s debut, the show has had 6 successful seasons and featured over 70 morbidly obese individuals on a journey to lose weight. Each episode is filmed over the course of a year of that person’s life and the series often revisits past patients for an update on their progress. In most cases, the people on the show lose a significant amount of weight and are given a second chance at life. However, for many of the contestants, their journey to bettering their bodies doesn’t just end with losing weight—it also includes additional surgeries to remove excess skin. TLC has launched a series that highlights life after dramatic weightloss, Skin Tight, which showcases two individuals per episode engaging in skin removal surgery.
