Somehow, Lady Gaga still manages to shock people by putting new twists on her appearance. She has proudly appeared in public covered in Kermit the Frog puppets, bubble wrap, and meat. Last week, you could say she scaled down a bit when she showed up to SoulCycle in Chicago with her face covered in “Day of the Dead”-inspired temporary tattoos. Here eyes were rimmed like a sugar skull, and she had a red rose inked on her forehead.
The event was a fundraiser for the Born This Way Foundation, the organization that Lady Gaga started with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, in order to support “the wellness of young people” and to empower them “to create a kinder braver world.” Germanotta joined her daughter at the event along with Sophia Bush and other fans, but Gaga was the only one with her face decorated.
“We rode like mad, laughed a lot, cried a little, and even jumped off the bikes to have a mid-class a [sic] dance party,” Bush wrote on an Instagram, which you can see below, that she posted from the event. “Doing good for the world is the most fun and rewarding thing you can do with your time, and tonight we proved it.”
You can see the ornate face art that Gaga wore in several photos that she and the Born This Way Foundation have shared. “We rode for a world where every kids [sic] voice matters, and every kids [sic] pain is met with compassion,” Gaga captioned one of her photos on Instagram. “Let’s work toward a kinder and braver world: where every kid wakes up knowing their voice matters, that they are heard, and that there are many resources available to help them with the emotional and social changes they face,” she wrote on another.
The event raised over $50,000 for the foundation. Flip through the photos below to see some close-ups of Gaga’s faux face tattoo.
