You can add new ink to the many recent changes in Cody Simpson’s life. Last month, the 18-year-old Australian pop star was eliminated from ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” on week five of the competition, and just last week he and his supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid announced that they were splitting up to focus on their respective careers.

On June 23, the former Atlantic Records artist will be releasing a new album, Free, but this time as an independent artist on his own label, Coast House. Many of us probably have stories about that spontaneous tattoo that we got while life was getting shaken up. You could speculate that Simpson did that, but his explanation of the design shows that it was pretty thought out.

Together, the circle and lines below it, tattooed on his left forearm, make up the design that he has been using as his personal logo and the logo for Coast House. The caption below his Instagram of the tattoo reads, “#coasthouse the balance of all natural things.” The circle represents the sun, the wavy line represents water and the three straight lines represent earth.
