2019 may have been a year of many new beginnings, from the iPhone 11 to the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child. However, it was also a year that had us say goodbye to many famous faces. We’ve curated a list of 10 stars who passed away in the year 2019, take a look back at who we lost.
Toni Morrison
On August 5th, world renowned and Novel Prize winning novelist, Toni Morrison passed away at the age of 88. She was best known for her books “The Bluest Eye,” “Beloved” and “Son of Solomon,” leaving behind an unforgettable literary legacy.
Nipsey Hussle
On March 31st, the hip-hop world was rocked when rapper Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot outside of his Los Angeles store. Hussle was a Grammy nominated artist who passed away at just 33 years of age.
Grumpy Cat
While her name may have officially been Tardar Sauce, the internet knew this feline as Grumpy Cat. During her lifetime, Grumpy Cat rose to prominence on social media and accumulated millions of followers online before passing away on May 14th at the age of seven.
Luke Perry
On March 4th, teen idol Luke Perry passed away at the age of 52 after suffering from two strokes. He was best known for playing heartthrob Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210 and Fred Andrews on CW’s Riverdale.
Keith Flint
This year, music lost one of the greats, English singer and founding member of the Prodigy, Keith Flint. Flint passed away at the age of 49 on March 4th, with hanging ruled as the cause of death.
Karl Lagerfeld
One of the fashion industry’s finest designers and most legendary faces, Karl Lagerfeld, passed away from complications due to pancreatic cancer at the age of 85 on February 19th. Lagerfeld was best known at the creative director for Chanel, leading the fashion house from 1983 up until his death.
Peter Mayhew
While you may not recognize this actor by name, Mayhew is best known for portraying Chewbacca throughout the Star Wars film series. Standing at 7-ft-3 and playing the beloved character for four decades, Mayhew died of a heart attack on April 30th at the age of 74.
Doris Day
Doris Day was one of Hollywood’s favorite actresses during its Golden Age, making history as one of the box-offices most successful stars. Day passed away at the age of 97 on May 13th from pneumonia.
Sid Haig
On September 21st, horror legend best known for portraying Captain Spaulding in Rob Zombie’s films, Sid Haig passed away from complications of COPD, Aspergillus pneumonia, a small bowel obstruction, and cardiopulmonary arrest at 80-years-old.
Eddie Money
On September 13th, “Take Me Home Tonight” singer Eddie Money lost his battle with esophageal cancer at the age of 70.
