16 Celebrities with Valentine’s Day Approved Tattoos
We *heart* these celebrity tattoos!
Valentine’s Day is upon us and we’ve already seen the classic love heart scattered throughout drug stores and social media. And this year, we thought to ask, “Where does the ❤ come from?” The heart we known today is an ideograph, which are graphic symbols used to represent an idea, theme or movement. It’s believe to have been modeled off heart-shaped peepal leaves, which grow on the ficus religiosa plant.
The heart shape began showing up in art during the late Middle Ages and became very popular during the Renaissance period. Today, the symbol represents romantic love in most contexts and is frequently depicted in Valentine’s Day cards, chocolate boxes and even used to show a player’s lives in video games.Internet culture has had a tremendous impact on the heart’s iconography, appearing as <3 in the days of AIM and evolving to as technology evolve.
