100 Creative Cobra Tattoos
Would you get a cobra tattoo?
Snakes are one of the most fascinating animals on the planet and some of the most studied types of snakes are cobras. True cobras belong to the Naja genus and they’re venomous elapid snakes. Elapid snakes have permanently erect fangs at the front of their mouths and cobras are also known for rearing their neck-flaps when they feel threatened. True cobras can be found throughout Africa, as well as Southern Asia. Some of the most common true cobra species include the Banded Water Cobra, the Chinese Cobra, the Monocled Cobra and the Indian Cobra.
One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to cobras revolves around the King Cobra. Although King Cobras are one of the most recognized snake species, they’re not actually true cobras as they don’t belong to the Naja genus. King Cobras are the sole member of the Ophiophagus genus and are native to Southern Asia. King Cobras are the longest venomous snakes in the world, reaching over 19 feet in length.
King Cobra venom is impressively lethal and in order to allegedly protect themselves against the snakes, members of the Pakokku tribe in Myanmar tattoo themselves with an ink mixed with the snake’s venom. There are also traditional rituals done throughout Myanmar that typically involve a King Cobra and a tattooed female snake charmer.
Take a look at 100 of our favorite cobra tattoos from some of our favorite artists around the world in the gallery below. Then let us know your favorite tattoo from this list in the comments section on social media.
