65 Far Out Disco Ball Tattoos

Disco is not dead.

When it comes to Disco, we think of roller skating, bell bottoms, afros, Donna Summer, and yes, disco balls. However, you might be surprised to learn that disco balls precede the emergence of disco music. Disco music began originating during the late 1960s and early 1970s in both Philadelphia and New York City. Whereas the disco ball, also known as a mirror ball or glitter ball, dates back to the early 20th century. Disco ball tattoos are a vibrant homage to this iconic symbol of the disco era, capturing its glittering allure and cultural significance in permanent ink. Disco Ball Tattoos

Disco balls began appearing in nightclubs during the late 1910s and early 1920s. The first disco ball shown on film appeared in 1927’s “Berlin: Symphony of Metropolis. Then in 1942, a disco ball was visible in a flashback scene in “Casablanca” starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

Disco balls became a staple of discothèques throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, with the name disco ball becoming widely known. Omega National Products, based in Louisville, Kentucky, claims to have manufactured 90% of the disco balls used during America’s disco craze. Many musicians continue to use disco balls in their shows to this day, with some of the most notable disco balls being U2’s lemon-shaped disco ball used on their 1997-1998 and Madonna’s 2-ton disco ball that was embellished with 2 million dollars worth of Swarovski crystals that was used on her 2006 tour.
