Exclusive: Michael J Fox Gets His First Tattoo at Bang Bang NYC
Bang Bang comments on the actor's inspiring tattoo experience with Mr. K
Bang Bang NYC is one of the leading tattoo parlors in Manhattan, if not the world. The artists at Bang Bang specialize in crafting top notch designs and many of their clientele happen to be A-listers across the entertainment industry.
From Rihanna, to Justin Bieber, to Demi Lovato, the who’s who of Hollywood have all stopped by the NYC shop for their taste of the Bang Bang experience.
The latest star to grace the tattoo chairs of Bang Bang NYC is none other than Michael J Fox. Fox is best known for portraying Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy, and has earned five Primetime Emmy and four Golden Globe awards in the four decades he’s been active in entertainment.
However, despite living what many would consider a life packed with experiences, Fox did something new for the very first time at the age of 57.
Of course, we’re referring to his first tattoo, which was completed on January 9th by resident artist and fine-line mastermind, Mr. K.
And while we weren’t entirely surprised that the award-winning actor would be getting tattooed by Mr. K, as the pair had a consultation back in October, we were stunned by the incredible end result.
And while we weren’t in the room when the piece was inked, we got the next best thing by learning about the actor’s first tattoo from Bang Bang himself. Take a look at what the iconic artist and businessman had to say about Fox’s fresh ink.
How was Mr. K approached by Michael J Fox for his first tattoo?
Bang: We got an email from one of his associates asking to meet with K and talk about the design. About a month and a half ago, they got to meet at a scheduled consultation and set up the appointment for today.
What was the design?
Bang: He got a sea turtle. He was telling me that there was a transformation for him with his career decisions when he was swimming in Saint John. He spotted this turtle with a chunk missing from it’s fin and a scar on his face. And that turtle let him swim with him for about a half an hour. He made a transcending decision right after that. So that turtle was pretty significant to him.
Michael J Fox has Parkinson’s (a disease that causes muscle rigidity and tremors). Did this cause either Fox or K have any difficulties during the tattoo?
Bang: I don’t think so, I think that he did really well. This is something that can affect him really heavily or not as much, but he had a great day today here.
What else should our readers know about this tattoo experience?
Bang: Everybody is such a big fan of Michael J Fox, all of the tattoo artists and employees gathered around to see this thing finished up. He signed a bunch of stuff, we took photos and he was great to us. He was really awesome and let us be fans for a moment.
What do you think about the finished tattoo and the actor’s life changing animal encounter? Are you dying to get a tattoo by Mr.K or one of the other talented artists at Bang Bang NYC?
