Take a Tour of Grimes’ Tattoos

Aside from the ongoing pandemic, the birth of Grimes and Elon Musk’s son is the talk of the town. The pair first revealed that they were an item at the 2018 Met Gala and then on January 8th 2020 the pair announced they were expecting their first child. Grimes gave birth to a son, allegedly named X Æ A-12, on May 4th 2020—with the pair showing off their new bundle of joy on Twitter. In honor of Grimes and Musk’s baby boy, we’ve curated a list of the singer’s tattoos and it’s time you took a look at her eccentric collection.

Elvish Script on Fingers and Geometric Blackwork Design on Middle Finger

In July of 2018, Grimes and her friend Hana Pestle both got “Lord of the Rings” tattoos by artist Delphine Noiztoy. Grimes got Elvish script reading “Contradiction / Be ready for war / No shields allowed.”

This piece is a coverup of earlier designs, including the standalone middle finger piece, which was crafted by Noiztoy in November of 2016.

“Beautiful” on Top of Hand, 8 on Top of Hand, Symbol and Alien Head Below Thumb and Chains on Wrist

Grimes has the word “Beautiful” tattooed on the top of her hand, as well as her lucky number 8 (which she named a song after on her “Visions” album).

She also has an unknown symbol inked just below her thumb and beneath that a small alien head.

On her wrist, she has a chevron line and chains, which were homemade.

Blackwork Brush Strokes on Leg

Back in January of 2017, Grimes got a huge brush stroke inspired piece by Noiztoy, which begins at her thigh and ends at her foot.

The brush strokes spell out “тихо,” which means quiet in Russian.

Symbols on Palm

In March of 2017, Grimes sought out hand poke artist Grace Neutral for a series of symbols on her palm, which include the alchemy symbol for the planet Jupiter.

Blackwork Brush Stroke Cross on Forearm and Heart on Bicep

Grimes has another brush stroke tattoo by Noiztoy, covering up an existing black cross in December 2015. Grimes took to her Instagram page to share the piece, writing: “Big streaks of paint so I always remember that I’m an artist, Delphine is a master of this style. I hope to add more specks of paint with her later, so that my hands always look as if I’ve just been painting and making a mess.”

Grimes also has the outline of a heart on the top of her left bicep.

Lines on Index Finger

While the fingers on her left hand are pretty covered, her right is more simple. Grimes has a series of lines on her index finger, which vary in lengths and line widths.

Stick and Poke Symbols on Knee

At the 2018 Met Gala, Grimes revealed a stick and poke tattoo above her right knee, which is Russian and when pronounced sounds like fae.

Symbols on Ribs

On her ribs, Grimes has a series of symbols inked by Noiztoy.

Zelda Tattoo on Forearm

Grimes and her brothers all have “The Legend of Zelda” tattoos, which is their favorite video game.
