You’ll Never Believe What Halsey Considered Doing While She Was Homeless

Did you know Halsey used to be homeless?

While today, Halsey may be a Grammy-nominated artist, her life wasn’t always so glamorous. After dropping out of college, Halsey was kicked out of her home and spent time living in homeless shelters throughout New York City. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she opened up about the experience, saying: “I remember one time I had $9 in my bank account, and bought a four-pack of Red Bull and used it to stay up overnight over the course of two or three days, because it was less dangerous to not sleep than it was to sleep somewhere random and maybe get raped or kidnapped.”

On Saturday, March 6th, Halsey spoke out about her experience in Hollywood at Ending Youth Homelessness: A Benefit For My Friend’s Place. There, she revealed the truth about what she almost did in order to afford her next meal.

“When I was living in New York, I was a teenager. My friends were picking out decorations for their dorms, and I was debating on whether or not I should let a stranger inside me so I could pay for my next meal,” Halsey shared at the benefit.

Her story, as a formerly homeless and LGBTQ individual, have the potential to make real changes in our nation, as 40% of homeless youth is part of the queer community. It’s important for the mainstream to recognize the reality that millions of LGBTQ children go through and lend a helping hand when they can.
