Kehlani’s New Album is One Dreamy Body of Work
Take a look at what Kehlani had to say about making her sophomore album, "It Was Good Until It Wasn't"
Over the past few years, Kehlani has emerged as one of the hottest R&B artists of our time. Getting her start on “America’s Got Talent” and capturing the attention of Nick Cannon, Kehlani broke through as a solo artist in 2014 with her mixtape “Cloud 19.” A year later, Kehlani was an artist to watch after releasing her second mixtape, “You Should Be Here,” and then in 2017, made audiences fall in love with her sultry lyrics with her debut studio album “SweetSexySavage.” Now, in 2020, after having her first child and experiencing plenty of ups and downs in her love department, she’s returned with her sophomore album “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.”
Kehlani teased her new album with three singles, “Toxic,” “Everybody Business,” and “F&MU.” Each of these songs were accompanied by a music video that was shot in Kehlani’s home during quarantine. The full album contains 15 tracks and the features list is certainly a star studded affair. Kehlani pulled in Torey Lanez, Jhené Aiko, Maesgo, Lucky Daye and James Blake as featured artists, as well as Ty Dolla $ign providing background vocals to the album’s debut track “Toxic.” Overall, the album is a mix of jazzy and dreamy R&B songs, such as “Water,” and “Change Your Life,” with powerful anthems, like “Everybody Business” and “Serial Lover.” Her subject matter spans from hooking up to breaking up, giving listeners an inside look at what the singer has gone through since her last project, 2019’s “While We Wait” mixtape, was released.

“It Was Good Until It Wasn’t” is now available for streaming on YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music. iTunes, and Tidal.
