In 2013, BBC debuted the crime drama series “Peaky Blinders,” which follows the Shelby crime family after World War I. The series is based on a real life street gang of the same name, which was founded in the early 1900s in Birmingham, England. The leader of the Peaky Blinders gang is Thomas “Tommy” Shelby (portrayed by Cillian Murphy), who is of Romani descent and faces conflict with Inspector Campbell, an Irish police officer. The show is known for featuring many reoccurring characters portrayed by celebrated actors, including Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody and Anya Taylor-Joy.
Over the course of five seasons, the show has gained a cult following and has been heavily celebrated by critics—earning a number of BAFTA and TV Choice awards.
