SZA Got a Neck Tattoo for Her Late Grandmother
Check out the singer/songwriter's brand new ink
SZA, who’s been nominated for a Grammy, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award, went from a relatively unknown singer/songwriter to a mainstream success in just a few short years. However, despite her rise to fame, the soulful singer has remained grounded and continues to put family first. On June 19th, SZA’s Grandmother passed away and shortly after, the singer attended her funeral in New York. And to pay homage, SZA stopped by one of NYC’s top tattoo shops.
“[SZA] saw a tattoo I did on a mutual friend Marz Lovejoy that she really liked and hit me up on Instagram,” shares Big Steve, a fine line specialist at Fun City Tattoo. “I was booked, but she told me she was in town for her Grandmother’s funeral, so I made it happen for her. She’s really one of the nicest people I’ve met to date and has really amazing energy, especially under the circumstances of us meeting.”
SZA sought out Steve for a delicate, fine line tattoo of her grandmother’s name, Norma. The tattoo rests on the side of her neck and the singer revealed the piece to her Instagram followers with the caption, “Dec 25 1928- June 19 2019.”
And although we never met Grandma SZA, we’d argue that not only would she be proud of her Granddaughter’s incredible accomplishments, but of the special tattoo as well.
