Today’s skull of the day goes to Luca Natalini. Natalini is a very diverse artist who can work in both color and black and grey. Her signature style is a cool cross between realism and New School, which adds a cartoony feel to real life objects and images.

As you can see with today’s pick, Natalini’s style incorporates realistic shading and textures among animated and less-dimensional pieces, like the top rose or the heart design. Whereas these less defined images look as if they were painted on to the tattoo, the aspects of the piece with deeper shading look almost etched into the client’s skin, creating a fun and innovative illusion of layering.

We love the bright color palette used to bring this skull and roses piece to life, focusing heavily on the pink flowers and purple background to highlight the same tones that appear within the skull itself. Another fun feature about this piece is that it seems to emote at the viewer. The shape of the eyes and jaw allow this piece to convey a sense of longing or sadness that you don’t typically see in many skull pieces today. Among all of the bright and well saturated colors, thus, you have a hint of the true morbid nature of a skull.

This cool and original style that Natalini has rendered is typically brought to life through freehanding rather than stenciling her pieces on, which ensures that these tattoos work perfectly with each client’s body flow.
