Dmitriy Samohin is one of the most influential artists in the industry. His impeccable work in color realism has gained him his well-deserved notoriety over the last decade and is the reason his work is today’s tattoo of the day.
Based in Ukraine, Samohin is an entirely self-taught artist, an absolutely mind-blowing feat since his work is of such a high caliber. Just take a look at today’s pick! The bold, bright colors just pop right off of the client’s skin. In fact, it looks like you could reach into the tattoo and touch the leaves in the foreground, and therefore this was a no brainer choice for today’s tattoo.
The coolest part about today’s tattoo is definitely the portrait’s lifelike eyes. The subtle shimmer in them reflect a soft expression and effortlessly breathes life into the piece as a whole. We also love the placement of the leaves in this piece. They create an implied frame to the portrait that helps round out the entire tattoo.
The incredible work that went into bringing this portrait to life can be found in all of Samohin’s colored portraits and color realism pieces, thus showcasing why he has gained so much success and respect in the industry. In fact, he is one of the most frequently cited artists as an influence to other top tattooists out there.
If you love this piece as much as we do, make sure to check out more of Dmitriy Samohin’s work on his artist’s page right here.
