All of the great icons are identifiable by one name—Elvis. Jimi. Lemmy. Anyone who has ever banged their head to Motörhead more than once in their life, and we can’t think of anyone who hasn’t, knows all about the man and legend that was Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister. The gravelly voiced bassist passed away at the age of 70 “after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer,” according to the BBC.
Known just as much for his collection of Nazi memorabilia, his outlandish apparel and his moles as he was for his music, Lemmy was a truly one-of-a-kind character in an industry filled with oversized personalities. Given his much publicized love of Jack Daniels and amphetamines Lemmy truly was born to raise hell. As he sang on “Ace of Spades,” Motörhead’s biggest hit, Lemmy may not have wanted to live forever, but as a metal fan you always believed that he would.
There actually are two ways that Lemmy will live on forever—in his music and in tattoos. So crank up your stereo as loud as it goes, throw on Overkill, Iron Fist, Ace of Spades or any other one of Motörhead’s albums and enjoy this gallery of portraits tattoos featuring the one and only Lemmy.
