Tattoos and Cocktails!
We’d like to introduce you to Tattooed Martha, whose real name is actually Sasha. Sasha is a very pretty, heavily tattooed and talented “homemaker” who has this awesome blog where she tries out new recipes – sometimes they work out fine and sometimes they are just shy of disastrous. However, unlike other DIY sites, Sasha lets you see it all—warts and all, although, thankfully none of her recipes include warts.
Sasha is the mother of 17lb cat named Punk, who has been her trusted companion since Sasha was only 14 years-old. Originally from Des Moines, IA she now lives in Portland, OR where she has been kicking out this awesome blog.
We thought it would be great for you to meet someone from this new breed of DIY’ers and actually share with you four recipes that we think you will dig.
So with out further ado…
(Makes 4-6 servings – more than enough for a 1 pint canning jar)
Ingredients:
2-3 garlic cloves
3 medium tomatillios, husked, stem removed, and quartered
1 avocado, skin and pit removed
1 serrano pepper, stem removed and cut into small chunks
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
Juice from half a lime
Salt and pepper to taste
Toss the garlic cloves into a food processor or blender and puree until they’re minced. Add tomatillos and puree until smooth. Add avocado, serrano, cilantro leaves, lime juice, and a bit of salt and pepper. Puree until completely mixed and smooth, stopping once to scrape down the sides of the processor. Transfer to a bowl and serve right away. You can also transfer to a sealing jar or container and store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Meet Punk, Sasha’s “big” cat!
(Makes 1 large smoothie)
Ingredients: 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt, 1 1/2 cups frozen raspberries, 1 Tbs honey, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, 1 Tbs chia seeds (optional)
Add old fashioned oats to a food processor or blender and pulse into a fine powder.
Next you’ll add the Greek yogurt, frozen raspberries, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and chia seeds if you chose to add any. Puree until completely smooth. Transfer to a large glass, sprinkle with a bit of nutmeg, oats, and top with a raspberry. Serve right away.
Those cupcakes look like they are coming out perfect!

Lemon-Thyme Infused Vodka:
1 lemon, 6 sprigs of fresh thyme, 1 cup vodka
Cut three 1″ wide strips of lemon peel from your lemon. Place in a canning jar or other glass sealing container with the sprigs of thyme. Fill to the top with vodka and store in a cool dark place for 1-2 weeks. I left mine for the full 2 weeks so that the thyme flavor really came through.
Remove lemon peels and sprigs, strain if necessary, and keep refrigerated or room temperature for as long as you like. For the cocktail itself you’ll want it chilled.
(makes 2 drinks)
Honey Lemon Thyme Champagne Cocktail:
2oz lemon-thyme infused vodka, chilled, 1 Tbs honey, Champagne, chilled, Fresh thyme sprigs or lemon peel twists for garnish
In a large glass or cocktail shaker, stir together vodka and honey until honey is completely dissolved. Distribute evenly between two champagne flutes, top off with champagne, garnish, and serve right away.
And the tattoo is awesome too!
Every DIY’er loves Halloween, including Sasha.
(Makes 20-24 slices)
Ingredients: 1 baguette, cut into 3/4 inch thick slices, 1 to 2 Tbs olive oil, 4oz spreadable goat cheese, 1 large peach, pit removed and cut into thin wedges, 1 plum, pit removed and cut into thin wedges, 4oz blackberries, Fresh basil leaves, 1 to 2 Tbs honey
You can also do blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, pear, or apple slices.
Preheat oven on low broiler setting (500 degrees F). Arrange baguette slices on 1 to 2 large baking sheets and brush the tops with olive oil.
Place in the oven for 2-3 minutes or until tops are just lightly toasted golden brown. Set a timer! I’m always multitasking and forget when I have items under the broiler, resulting in charred black toast!
Remove slices from the oven and allow to cool for a moment.
Spread each slice with a layer of goat cheese. Top with fruit slices, a few basil leaves, and drizzle with a small amount of honey. Serve right away.
This makes it all takes good!
