70 Animated ‘South Park’ Tattoos
Who's your favorite "South Park" character?
In 1997, history was made when “South Park” premiered on Comedy Central. The adult animated sitcom was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who’d go on to develop the Tony award-winning musical “The Book of Mormon.” The show follows elementary school students Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, who live in the fictional town of South Park, Colorado. Stan and Kyle are loosely based on Parker and Stone, who also voice the characters. Parker and Stone voice the majority of the male characters on the show, with Parker also voicing Cartman, Randy Marsh, and Mr. Garrison and Stone voicing Kenny, Butters, and Gerald Broflovski. Many of the female characters were voiced by Mary Kay Bergman during the first few seasons, but after her death in 1999, other actors took over the roles. For fans of the series, South Park tattoos are a popular way to celebrate their love for the show’s iconic characters and irreverent humor.
The show is known for its profanity and dark, surreal humor. Over the last 25 years, the series has released over 315 episodes and are currently on their 25th season. The show has been renewed throughout 2027 and there are currently a series of films being made for the streaming service Paramount+. One thing that sets the show apart is that scripts are not written at the start of a season, instead being written on a week by week basis. This has allowed the show to be on top of current events, such as the discovery of Saddam Hussein, Barack Obama’s presidential victory and the Terri Schiavo case.
Over the years, the show has received numerous impressive accolades. It’s earned five Primetime Emmy Awards thus far, as well as 15 nominations. It even won a Peabody Award in 2005 and the 1999 theatrical film, “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” was nominated for Best Original Song at the 72nd Academy Awards, losing to Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be in My Heart” from “Tarzan.”
