Phenomenal Phoenix Tattoos
Would you get a phoenix tattoo?
Aside from being a city in Arizona, a phoenix is a mythological bird that originated in Ancient Egypt. They’re known for the ability to regenerate and be born again, obtaining new life by rising up from the ashes. The myth of the phoenix has appeared frequently throughout many cultures, including Ancient Greece (where some dispute the phoenix originated).
The phoenix has been depicted frequently throughout literature and in popular culture. William Shakespeare referenced the phoenix frequently in his plays and wrote a poem called “The Phoenix and the Turtle.” Children’s author C.S. Lewis wrote in a phoenix in the final book of his “Chronicles of Narnia” series, “The Last Battle.” And of course, we cannot forget the addition of Fawkes in the “Harry Potter” franchise. Fawkes is Albus Dumbledore’s pet phoenix, who helps Harry fight the Basilisk in “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets.” Fawkes also gave only two of his phoenix feathers to be used in wands, one possessed by Harry and the other by Lord Voldemort.
In honor of the many years of lore surrounding the phoenix, we’ve curated some of our favorite tattoos depicting this magnificent and magical bird. Take a peek at the tattoos from talented artists around the world in the gallery below and let us know your favorite tattoo from this list in the comments section on social media.
