Meet The Dazzling Dozen of the October 2017 Inked For a Cause Issue

As part of Inked magazine’s Inked for a Cause campaign this very special October 2017 issue has twelve vivacious ladies all bearing scars from breast cancer, both physical (though those are now mostly covered by tattoos) and emotional, profiled on the cover and in an extensive pictorial feature.

Photographed by the incomparable Sophy Holland the images which they share with us in hopes that it helps someone going through a tough time. I’m often asked what my favorite Inked shoot has been and I never had a clear answer until this month with The Dazzling Dozen. These vivacious ladies have scars from breast cancer, both physical (though those are now mostly covered by tattoos) and emotional, which they share with us in hopes that it helps someone going through a tough time. During the shoot with the incomparable Sophy Holland (1) and her team, we all laughed, cried and hugged—it was truly a dynamic group. Yes, I cried. I’m not ashamed to say I cry during touching moments, like weddings and the end of Rudy. I got emotional just going through e-mails from brave and fabulous women who wanted to be part of this project. And it is OK to cry. A few months before he died from cancer, Jim Valvano said these words during the ESPYS, “To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is to think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.”
