This Aussie Tattooer is Known For Her Mastery of Feminine Beauty

Neo-traditional is a tattoo genre that is influenced by traditional tattooing, as well as fine art movements such as art nouveau. Art nouveau was a European artistic movement that flourished between 1890 and 1910. It was a rebellion against the post-impressionist movement and the manufacturing boom of the industrial revolution. Art nouveau was heavily inspired by the stylistic techniques of Japanese woodblock and Japanese traditional tattooing. The style can be characterized as organic and sensual, with a heavy focus on the natural world and feminine beauty. Art nouveau was popularized by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, who was considered to be the first great graphic designer and revolutionized the advertising industry. His work, specifically his lithographs of ingenue and ethereal women, have had a tremendous influence on neo-traditional tattooing—specifically in the art created by Australian tattooer Emily Rose Murray.

Murray is a neo-traditional tattooer based out of Melbourne. She runs a private studio and is known throughout the world for her enchanting and extremely recognizable female faces. The gypsies, mermaids, and mythical maidens that Murray creates have had an incredible impact on the neo-traditional genre, as well as the industry as a whole. Take a look at some of her most recent pieces and if you find yourself in Australia, consider reaching out to her for a custom work of art.
