I’m going to come out and say it. Whoever discovered chocolate deserves a statue, and I’m talking about a big statue. Now, I know that this is going to be hard to trace, but I’d like someone to get on it.
Chocolate is made by roasting and grinding cacao seeds, which are commonly farmed in Mesoamerica and West Africa. Most of the chocolate that we enjoy today is sweet chocolate, which is made with a combination of cocoa solids, cocoa butter and most importantly, sugar. Milk chocolate is made by adding milk powder or condensed milk to the mixture, whereas white chocolate doesn’t contain any cocoa solids.
Chocolate can be found in many of our favorite sweet treats, from cookies to candies to cakes to ice-cream—even coffee beverages can include chocolate. Consuming chocolate is associated with many Western holidays, notably Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Hanukkah. And a chocolate addict is known as a Chocoholic.
