Celebrate Pride 2020 with Inclusive Ink
These tattoos celebrate the beautiful diversity of Pride
June is Pride Month and although physical parades and events have been postponed, we’re still celebrating virtually. The first Pride was held in 1970, exactly 50 years ago, to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969. On June 28th 1969 a riot ensued at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village in response to a police raid. People at the bar, as well as other surrounding bars, fought back against police brutality and it’s still regarded as one of the most important moments in LGBT history. Two of the most prominent figures of the Stonewall Riots were Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who were both trans women of color and drag queens. This riot inspired a number of other riots and is largely credited with starting the Gay Rights movement.
Last year’s Pride, which was named Stonewall 50- WorldPride NYC 2019 was the largest Pride event in history, with over 5 million attendees in Manhattan alone. This year, because of the pandemic, Pride will be very different—however, it will still be celebrated.
Saturday, June 27th is Global Pride Day, which will feature a number of virtual events including a Pride Prom hosted by Billboard. We’re doing our part by sharing some of our favorite LGBT themed tattoos, many that were inked by queer artists.
