At Least We Still Have Sports Tattoos
With no sports to watch while we're in quarantine, these tattoos will help us get our fix
For sports fans, March is a holy month. The crown jewel of the whole month is clearly the NCAA Tournament. Millions of people fill out a bracket, become strangely obsessed with schools nobody has ever heard of (hello, UMBC) and figure out clever ways to watch the games at work without giving themselves away. The opening two days of the tournament are my favorite two days of the year, and I’m far from being alone in that opinion.
There are so many other sports going on in March besides college basketball. This is the time of the season when the NBA and NHL are both really heating up as teams make their pushes for the playoffs. The Champions League is just starting to get exciting now that we are out of the group stages. Spring training should be in full swing as we gear up for a brand new baseball season, with opening day originally scheduled for this upcoming Saturday.
But, as we all know, none of these sports are happening right now. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to avoid gathering in crowds, and what’s the point of sports without the crowd? There’s a reason teams have home field advantage, after all.
I’ve been struggling to find any sort of sports content I can get my hands on. I’ve been watching replays of classic sporting events, but when you remember the outcome you lose a bit of the thrill. I plowed through all of Ken Burns’ “Baseball” on PBS in record time, but documentaries, as entertaining as they may be, don’t quite give the same jolt of excitement that live sports do.
The closest thing that I’ve found to replace that thrill was in watching this rugby commentator narrate mundane life events. The second closest thing I’ve found is looking at a bunch of really amazing sports tattoos, reminders of how much passion people have for sport. Enjoy this gallery of sports tattoos, I hope it can bring a smile to your face right now.
