David Spade Gets Tattooed by Sean Penn To Memorialize Chris Farley
Penn first tattooed Spade in 1995, now reuniting 24-years later with the tattoo gun, to honor the late comedian.
Actor (and dare we say, tattoo artist) Sean Penn gave David Spade his second tattoo. The first one he did was back in 1995, during a Saturday Night Live sketch.
55-year-old David Spade’s second piece was dedicated to his late friend, Chris Farley. Spade told viewers on an episode of Lights Out with David Spade, that “it was time for some more ink,” adding that he needed to “solidify [his] hard rep on the streets.”
So, he grabbed his “favorite tattoo artist and author,” 59-year-old Sean Penn, who inked Spade’s bicep, with the initials “CF.”
Spade, who performed with Farley for five seasons on Saturday Night Live before starring in Tommy Boy, was Farley’s first major role after SNL. He then joined Spade the following year for Black Sheep.
“I had a tattoo parlor that I called, Sean’s Okay Tattoos because they were at best, okay,” laughed Penn, before beginning. While he handled the tattoo machine well, he joked, “now my eyes have deteriorated quite a bit so we’re sure to at least match the level of the last one.”
“Are you ready for this?” Spade asked Penn.
“Nah, in fact I haven’t touched one of these guns in maybe 15 to 20 years, I’m wondering if I wanna maybe set this needle to go a little deeper,” Penn replied.
As Penn finished the last touches he said: “There’s going to be a lot of corrective work…”
Farley passed away nearly 22 years ago from a drug overdose, and Spade had gotten the tattoo to memorialize Farley, as he shared the late comedian had been crossing Spade’s mind lately. His former SNL cast mates continue to remember him, including Adam Sandler in his Netflix special, with his touching “Chris Farley Song.”
