Future Got a Bob Marley Tattoo
The melodic trap pioneer just got inked with an homage to the reggae legend
Atlanta rapper and producer, Future, has a lot of tattoos. From arm pieces that immortalize his time in the Atlanta rap collective, the Dungeon Family, to a tattoo of Young Thug’s name, the man is unafraid to pay tribute to all chronicles and inspirations throughout his life. One look at his arms, chest and abdomen indicate there’s not much room left to add more, but that’s not a problem—he’s still got space on his legs.
Recently, Future was seen getting a new tattoo near the inside of his left knee—a portrait of reggae icon Bob Marley right above another large tattoo of Martin Luther King Jr’s mugshot.
In the video shared by DJ Akademiks, the prolific rapper is getting the piece done on the couch of a hotel room, ecstatically flaunting the event to someone over the phone.
Future, who also goes by Future Hendrix (inspired by Jimi Hendrix), is regarded as one of the most influential artists in the current hip hop scene, crafting a psychedelic sound that fuses heavy trap elements with melodic auto-tune. Specifically, his 2015 album “DS2” put him on the map, while later projects like his self-titled and “HNDRXX” cemented him as an essential player in the game.
Even if you’re not a diehard Future fan, it was impossible to go anywhere in 2017 without hearing his biggest single “Mask Off.” Today, you’ll recognize his deep and hazy vocals right off the bat in chart-topping songs like Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy” and Gunna’s “pushin P.” The rapper regularly teams up with his contemporaries to create hard-hitting releases, from his performances on The Weeknd’s “Starboy” to Playboi Carti’s “Whole Lotta Red” and most recently, Metro Boomin’s “HEROES & VILLAINS.”
It’s not uncommon for celebrities to get tattoos of their idols—just look at Kid Cudi’s portrait of Kurt Cobain or Drake’s portraits of Sade and Aaliyah. It’s easy to see why Marley, one of the most culturally significant icons in music history, prevails as one worthy of being tattooed to Future.
Thoughts on the mainstream rapper’s tribute to the music legend? What cultural icon’s portrait would you get tattooed, if you had to pick one?
