The first question that anyone with a tattoo ever hears from a non-tattooed person is some variation of “Did it hurt?”. What the uninitiated don’t understand is that there is a certain peacefulness and tranquility that can be obtained while getting ink. Today’s Inked Girl of the Day, Laura Polson, knows the serenity that a well thought out tattoo can provide.
“Most [of my tattoos] are Tibetan Buddhist themed,” Laura explains. “I am not Buddhist but I love how peaceful and tranquil it is and how [this feeling] has developed itself in my artwork. I have several pieces that have been translated to Tibetan and I try to always stick with tattoos that have personal meaning me.”
By getting tattoos to mark important milestones in her life Laura is able to reflect back on them every time she looks at her work, thus giving her a sense of peace. While there is great peace in her tattoos there is also strength. As she explains in herInked Girls profile, Laura’s favorite tattoo came about after getting out of a destructive relationship. Laura chose the perfect design to symbolize her rebirth after the experience—the mythical phoenix.
“The phoenix represents my literal rise from the ashes, or my life in hell,” Laura says. “I added additional flowers to surround my phoenix. I love this tattoo so much and every time I look at it, it reminds me of everything I have overcome.”
Considering the spiritual meaning behind her ink it seems almost trivial to point out how beautifully they compliment Laura’s look. As you can see throughout her Inked Girls profile her tattoos sit perfectly upon her curves almost as if she was born with them.
