RI’s Tattooed Librarians
Apparently libraries no longer consist of dusty old books and grey-haired librarians who look down their bifocals and shush anything that breathes. A whole new breed of librarians is taking over and they’re a bit flashier than the stereotypical ancient grannies.
Apparently libraries no longer consist of dusty old books and grey-haired librarians who look down their bifocals and shush anything that breathes. A whole new breed of librarians is taking over and they’re a bit flashier than the stereotypical ancient grannies. The Rhode Island Library Association is calling attention to the present-day people of the book by releasing a 2014 calendar called “Tattooed Librarians of the Ocean State,” featuring 12 inked librarians. The idea behind the calendar is to shed old clichés of libraries and promote the contemporary approach they take today. All proceeds of the $12 calendar will go to Rhode Island Library Association and are available for sale on their website, rilibraries.org.
Emily Grace (the adorable librarian in the polka dotted dress) organized the calendar and gives Inkedmag.com her current reading list:
2013 Memoirs:
Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris
Crapalachia by Scott McClanahan
2013 Non-Fiction:
Crazy Rich: Power, Scandal, and Tragedy Inside the Johnson & Johnson Dynasty by Jerry Oppenheimer
The Unwinding: An Inner History of the New America by George Packer
Read the book before it becomes a movie:
The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner (with James Franco directing/starring)
The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort (Martin Scorsese directing, Leonardo DiCaprio starring)
Also!
“Everything on the American Library Association’s list of banned or challenged classics.”
Thanks Emily, for changing the perception of librarians and readers as a whole.
