The tattooed frontman of pop band Maroon 5 has done it again. Last night, on November 15th, Adam Levine added another tattoo to his growing collection. But it’s not much of a surprise that Levine would get another tattoo, especially since he has been hinting at this piece for five weeks. Levine knows how to create suspense, posting two different close ups to Instagram of the progress of a new black and grey piece. Many suspected in the comments that this new tattoo would be a tribute to wife and Victoria’s Secret Angel, Behati Prinsloo, yet Levine had a different maiden in mind.
Levine revealed that the mystery tattoo was not an angel like fans had anticipated, but a black and grey style mermaid holding a skull done by traditional artist, Bryan Randolph. The piece spans over most of Levine’s back, which explains why Levine has taken months to show off the tattoo. The piece fits along side Levine’s other back tattoos, a paw print and a 1920s pin-up girl.

Levine got the VIP treatment for the latest session of his mermaid tattoo, having the San Rafael artist over at his Beverly Hills abode for what wife Prinsloo called a “house call.” Guess it pays to be a famous rock star! Although Levine has revealed the full tattoo on social media, it is unclear whether this will be the last session for the piece. Looking at the photograph on Instagram, it is easy to see that there are two outlined sparrows on Levine’s right side and Randolph looks about halfway done a large traditional border. Fans of the pop icon will just have to stay tuned in to catch a look at what the tattoo will look like when it’s finished. Never the less, we’re all glad that Levine shared this seductive black and grey photograph of how music’s elite get their tattoos.
