Father and Son Bond Over Ink
We all know that David Beckham accompanied his son, Brooklyn, to the tattoo shop in April to get inked for the very first time, but what you may not know is that, just days before turning 18, Brooklyn almost went behind his father’s back to get a tattoo on his own, which would have broken a rather sweet tattoo pact the two made when Brooklyn was younger.

Not that you need yet another reason to envy the Beckhams, but the children in that family are incredibly close with their parents, and the touching story David Beckham shared during a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden is proof of that. According to the 42-year-old, he and Brooklyn made a pact that David would be by his side when he got his first tattoo at 18, but “four days before [his birthday], he was with his girlfriend in Paris, and one of my friends called me that was looking after him there and said, ‘It’s not coming from me, but Brooklyn is at a tattoo shop with his girlfriend.’”
It’s Actually a Cute Story
Most parents would have freaked out learning that their firstborn child was about to get inked, but not David. He calmly called up his son and reasoned with him. “I FaceTimed him, and I said, ‘What are you doing, mate?’” David explained to Corden. “And he said, ‘I’m just going for dinner.’ And I was like, ‘Are you sure you’re going for dinner?’ And he was like, ‘Actually, Dad, I’m in a tattoo place. I was thinking about having something, I’m with my girlfriend.’” According to David, he told Brooklyn that he was “more than welcome” to get a tattoo if he really wanted to, but reminded him about the pact they had made. He said, “I’m your dad, and I would feel really upset if you actually went through with it [without me].”

Rather than hurt his dad’s feelings, Brooklyn decided to keep his promise and wait for his 18th birthday to get inked, with David by his side. In return, David took his son to the best of the best – Shamrock Social Club owner, Mark Mahoney, who just so happens to be a friend of the family. Not only that, but Brooklyn paid tribute to his dad by modeling his first-ever tattoo after David’s Native American chief piece, so now the two have a permanent reminder of their solid father-son bond.

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
