Is it ‘Galway Girl’ or ‘Galway Grill’?
At the relatively young age of 26, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran already has more than 60 tattoos to his name, all of which have deeply personal meanings for the singer, mostly as references to his music career, song titles, album names and collaborations with other artists. But when Sheeran went under the needle for a tattoo dedicated to his latest single, “Galway Girl,” he ended up with a piece that is hilariously incorrect. Thanks to Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, who also happens to be a good friend of Sheeran’s, the 26-year-old now has a tattoo on his right forearm that reads “Galway Grill,” as in a place in Ireland where you might grab a quick bite to eat. But before you start to feel too bad for ole Teddy, read the full story behind the misspelled ink in the following slideshow.

During a recent show in Glasgow, Scotland, Ed Sheeran took a break from his set to share the story behind his latest tattoo, telling the audience that he asked Saoirse Ronan, who appears in the video for “Galway Girl,” to write down the song title in her handwriting, so he could have it permanently tattooed on his body. This by itself isn’t terribly surprising—Sheeran also has a Lego head tattoo dedicated to his hit “Lego House,” and another tattoo reading “Bloodstream,” which is the name of a song off his 2014 album, X. It was when he actually went to get the tattoo that things went wrong. “When we were filming [the video], I meant to get a tattoo of her handwriting saying ‘Galway Girl,’” Sheeran says in a video clip posted on Twitter by a fan, holding up his arm that bears the misspelled tattoo. “It actually says Galway Grill…G-R-I-L-L. I thought I’d tell you that. I haven’t told anyone that yet.”
