Bang Bang has become somewhat of a celebrity in the world of tattooing, thanks to famous clients like Rihanna, Drake, and Justin Bieber, but Bubba Irwin is no slouch either. The tattoo artist was featured on season four of Spike’s Ink Master, and just by looking at his Instagram page, you can tell he is immensely talented. Irwin is a self-taught tattoo artist specializing in realism and impossibly detailed portrait tats, and Matthews’ new crowned lion tattoo is proof of his unbelievable skill.

As for the meaning behind Auston Matthews’ fresh lion tattoo, the rookie just came off an incredible season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, finishing the regular season with 69 points and scoring four goals and one assist during Toronto’s opening-round playoff game against the Washington Capitals, and he may be feeling a bit like the king of the jungle at the moment. Matthews also played one professional season with the ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League A (NLA) before being drafted by the Leafs in 2016, and the Lions won the Swiss Cup that season, which could lend an alternative meaning to the new crowned lion tat.
