Britney Spears Shows Off Her Favorite (And Usually Hidden) Tattoo

The legendary pop singer took to Instagram to pull back the curtain behind her favorite ink

You may not realize it upon first look, but over the years Britney Spears has amassed a handful of tattoos. Most of these are hidden from view or incredibly small—she has a few on her hips, a tiny pair of dice on her wrist, a pair of lips on her other wrist and a little triangle on her hand.

But it wasn’t until this weekend that Spears shared her favorite tattoo with the world, a piece of script that is usually hidden behind her flowing hair.

While she is showing off a better look at the tattoos than most of us have ever had, it’s still a little tough to make out the script. Thankfully, Spears explained it for us in the comment.

“Have you seen the tattoo on the back of my neck before ????” she wrote. “It’s Hebrew, it’s a language written backwards !!!! It says Mem Hey Shin and means healing !!!! It’s my favorite tattoo but ironically you never see it !!!!!”

Now, we could go all-out in our snark to point out that referring to Hebrew as a “language written backwards” is a gross oversimplification of the language’s roughly 8,000 year existence, but yes, it is read from right-to-left as opposed to the standard left-to-right English uses.

But that seems petty. We actually think it’s pretty cool that Spears shared her favorite tattoo with her fans. We’d love to learn the full story about why she decided to get the phrase “healing” on the back in Hebrew: what was she going through? Why did she decide on Hebrew for the script?
