Actress Busy Phillips Causes Controversy with New Tattoo

Is this tattoo appropriate for a mom?

In 2018, actress and late-night host Busy Phillips got her first tattoo at the age of 39. The ink was inspired by book, This Will Only Hurt a Little, which was published on October 18th. In her book, she discusses women’s equality both on and off set in Hollywood. And on April 8th, 2019 Phillips got a second tattoo inspired by her memoir.

Cricket asked me today how much longer I’m gonna keep my tattoo on. Ummmmmm. ‍♀️ ⚡️

The tattoo, which was inked by Dallas artist Dre Li, is an illustration by Geoff McFetridge and features a girl ice-skating on the words “fuck em.” The design is placed on the arch of Phillips’ foot, a spot known to fade quickly and hurt like hell.

My favorite illustration drawn by @mcfetridge for my book #thiswillonlyhurtalittle (it’s in the A Movie Script Ending chapter). Tattooed beautifully by @dre.dayli in Dallas at @thirdeyegallery last night. And weirdly true to form and as things always tend to be, it really always only hurts a little. ❤️

Although Phillips is happy with her new tattoo, it has rubbed many people the wrong way. On her Instagram post, one user left a comment about her choice of words, writing: “I’m not judging…honestly curious bc I wish I was as brave as you to get a tattoo like that – but…what do you tell the kids???”

Guys. I got to do this shoot with my babies and I loved. it. so. much. I’m also loving the new Scallop Smartwatch 2 from @katespadeny. It tracks my heart rate, my steps, makes it easy to pay for things and does a lot of other stuff too. It’s very cool but you probably already know that. #loveinspades #partnership

However, Phillips was quick to respond to the criticism, replying: “I tell them that these are words to live by. Especially as a woman.”
