45 Lovely Chrysanthemum Tattoos
What's your favorite flower?
There are thousands of flowers out there and many of them make for absolutely gorgeous tattoos. One of my personal favorites to see ornament the body is the chrysanthemum, also known as a mum. The word chrysanthemum derives from the Ancient Greek words chrysos, which means gold, and anthemon, which means flower. Chrysanthemums are primarily native to East Asia, particularly China, however some species grow in northeastern Europe. Chyrsanthemums were first cultivated as a flowering herb in the 15th century BC in China. Today, there are over 20,000 cultivators of chyrsanthemums worldwide and 7,000 of these cultivators are in China alone.
Chrysanthemums take on wildly different symbolism depending on where you are in the world. In many countries throughout Europe, chrysanthemums symbolize death and are only used in funerals or graveyards. However, in East Asia, white chrysanthemums symbolize adversity and nobility. In the United States, they’re generally regarded as a positive and happy flower.
In honor of the rich history of chrysanthemums, take a peek at 45 of our favorite tattoos of these iconic flowers. Check out these epic blooms and let us know your thoughts on this story in the comments section on social media.
