55 Animated Hanna-Barbera Tattoos

Are you Team Flintstones of Team Jetsons?

“Tom and Jerry” are one of animation’s most prolific dynamic duos. But, did you know that their creators were a dynamic duo themselves? Animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera first collaborated together in 1940, creating “Tom and Jerry” for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. They worked alongside each other on this cartoon for nearly two decades, up until they created their own animation studio—Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Although you may not have heard of this production company, you’re certainly familiar with their work. Hanna-Barbera helped to popularize the Saturday morning cartoon phenomenon and their first series “The Ruff and Reddy” premiered in 1957. In 1960, Hanna-Barbera released one of their most famous animated series to date, “The Flintstones.” This show was loosely based on the sitcom “The Honeymooners” and followed a family of cavemen in a fictionalized Stone Age setting. “The Flintstones” ran for six seasons and up until “The Simpsons” came along it was the longest-running animated show in American history.

Throughout the 1960s, Hanna-Barbera continued to release hit animated shows, including “The Yogi Bear Show,” “The Jetsons” and “Top Cat.” At the tail end of the decade, they produced one of their most prolific shows, “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?” which became an international sensation. During the 1980s, Hanna-Barbera was all about “The Smurfs,” which was adapted from the comic by Peyo and it ran from 1981 to 1989. During the 1980s and 1990s, Hanna-Barbera faced a decline as Saturday morning cartoons were replaced by weekday afternoon syndication. After William Hanna passed away in 2001, Hanna-Barbera was absorbed in Warner Bros. Animation. However, to this day, Warner Bros. continues to produce new shows and films based on Hanna-Barbera’s iconic material.

In honor of all the amazing shows created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, take a look at 55 animated tattoos in the gallery below. Then let us know your favorite show from this animation studio in the comments section on social media.
