GoT Is Getting a Prequel
Long live George R.R. Martin
Game of Thrones isn’t quite dead yet.
Or at least the universe that fans have come to love and cherish is still living on, and we are learning exactly how we ended up at that shit season finale. HBO has planned for a ten episode prequel to GoT that shows the Targaryen history viewers have been learning of since they first laid eyes on Queen Daenerys Stormborn, first of her name, mother of dragons, breaker of chains, khaleesi of the great grass sea, the unburnt.
The series will be based off of author George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire and Blood,” and covers the Targaryen rulers who sat on the Iron Throne long before Khaleesi would ever come to be. Producers include former GoT guest producer Miguel Sapochnik, and with the title “House of the Dragon” and timing of the story-line, there’s a chance for even more dragons in this series. Fans are “cautiously” optimistic after a disappointing end to season 8.

Game of Thrones is coming back with a spinoff series with Miguel Sapochnik as the show runner. This man gave us Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, and The Long Night. Buckle in folks, we're about to see a whole lot more dragons! #HouseoftheDragon pic.twitter.com/WREkAXSTJr

“House of the Dragon” was announced right after HBO decided to cancel another GoT spin-off show, but didn’t announce the reasoning for the cancelation. The series release date is yet to be announced, but it’s expected to air sometime in May 2020.
