Meditation is a practice that can be used to train our awareness and attention in order to achieve mental clarity and emotional stability. It’s a great tool to use when you’re feeling stressed and can be extremely helpful in alleviating anxiety or depression. For those who find solace in this calming practice, meditation tattoos can serve as a visual reminder of inner peace and mindfulness.

Meditation can be very impactful during the tattoo process. We all know that tattoos can be very painful and our natural urge can be to squirm, tense up or straight up tap out. But focusing on your breathing, relaxing your body and centering your thoughts on a specific object or activity can make a positive difference.

Focusing on slow, even breaths helps you to relax and also makes it easier for an artist to tattoo you. You can focus on objects throughout the room, whether that be flash on the walls or other interesting objects. You can also pull your focus away from the pain by watching TV, reading a book or listening to your favorite playlist. It’s important to find what works for you, as well as what works for your artist.
