There are plenty of disagreement in the world, but if there’s one thing we can come together for it’s pandas. Pandas, also known as giant pandas, are native to the mountain ranges in Central China, specifically Sichuan. They’re considered to be a vulnerable species by the WWF, as they’ve been driven out of their natural habitats. In China, there are many different names for the panda bear, including spotted bear, bamboo bear and giant bear cat.
Pandas typically grow to be between 4 and 6 feet tall, with males weighing up to 350 pounds. They’re black and white coloring is believed to help them camouflage in their habitat, rocky mountain terrain that is often covered in snow. In the wild, they typically live to 20 years old, but have been known to live to 30 in captivity. The oldest panda ever recorded was named Jia Jia, who was born in 1978 and passed away in 2016 at 38 years old.
Pandas are known for being herbivores and their diet consists almost entirely of bamboo. Pandas consumed approximately 20 to 30 pounds of bamboo each day, which has led them to leave a sedentary lifestyle due to the plant’s poor nutrient value. However, they do find variety in their diet, as they can consume 25 different species of bamboo in the wild.
