For over two and a half decades, Slipknot have been a dominating force in heavy metal. The band was formed in 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. Over the years, many members have cycled through the band and the musicians are distinguished by their numbers, as well as unique face masks. The band’s current members include Shawn Crahan (#6), Craig Jones (#5), Mick Thompson (#7), Corey Taylor (#8), Sid Wilson (#0), Jim Root (#4), Alessandro Venturella, Jay Weinberg and Tortilla Man. Founding members Paul Gray (#2) and Joey Jordison (#1) passed away in 2010 and 2021 respectively.
Thus far, Slipknot has released six studio albums. The group’s first album, “Slipknot” dropped in 1999 and included the group’s debut single “Wait and Bleed.” Their first album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Top 200, however, every album since has peaked in the top three. Slipknot has even nabbed the top spot on the charts for their last three albums, “All Hope Is Gone” (2008), “.5: The Gray Chapter” (2014) and “We Are Not Your Kind” (2019). As of March of 2019, the group has sold over 30 million units of records worldwide.
But Slipknot’s most diehard fans have not stopped at buying records, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Over the years, many of Slipknot’s listeners have gotten tattoos in homage to the band.
