5 Tattoo Resolutions Everyone Should Keep in 2020
Have a happy and Inked new year
While forgetting New Year’s resolutions is generally to be expected, we believe that everyone deserves better tattoos in 2020. This is why we’ve curated short list of tattoo resolutions that any client can stick by. That’s right, there are no excuses people! Take a look at our resolutions for the New Year in the gallery below, then let us know your resolutions in the comments section.
1. Take Good Care of Your Tattoos
Aftercare is extremely important to the tattoo process and will ensure your ink will hold up after you leave the tattoo shop. While every tattooer has their own recommendations, we advise clients to use products like saniderm/tegaderm, which is a translucent film worn over the tattoo that helps the healing process. The film is worn for the first 24 hours, then removed so allow the client to clean any ink residue or plasma. Then a new film is applied and worn for 5-7 days, revealing a healed tattoo underneath.
If these products aren’t your jam, we recommend keeping the wrapping on for several hours and then removing them to clean the tattoo with warm, soapy water. After gently drying the tattoo, apply your preferred aftercare balm for two days and then switch to an unscented lotion. The most important thing to remember is to use a very small amount of aftercare and/or lotion, over doing it can result in irritation and rashes.
2. Travel For Your Next Tattoo
While we think it’s great to support your hometown artists, there’s a whole world of tattooers waiting for you. Whether you’re traveling to the next town, the next state or another country, step outside your box and go the distance for your next tattoo. A tattoo is something you’ll have for the rest of your time, so taking the time and spending the money to travel for a piece is totally worth it. Plus, you can make a fun weekend out of it!
3. Cover Your Ink in Sunscreen
If you want your tattoos to stay vibrant and fresh for the years to come, protect your skin at all costs. While you should be wearing sunscreen anyways, we definitely recommend lathering up throughout the summer months. There’s nothing worse than ruining a tattoo because of one careless day at the beach and you should care for the work you spend hundreds of dollars on. Tattoos are investments and deserve to be treated with care!
4. Do Your Research
Research is extremely important to finding your next tattooer and in 2019, it’s easier than ever. There’s no excuse for why you can’t find an amazing artist, especially with social media. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of incredible artists and it’s important for clients to realize that their dreams can come true if they’re willing to put in the work on their end. But researching doesn’t stop at finding a great artist, it’s about finding the right artist for your unique vision. There’s an artist for every style, subject matter and price point, you’ve just gotta find them.
5. Laser an Unwanted Tattoo and Get a Badass Coverup
You’ve been saying for years that you want your tramp stamp removed and 2020 is your year, baby! Stop procrastinating and book an appointment with a laser technician. While the process of getting a tattoo removed is time consuming and painful, it’s very worth it. You don’t have to live with a tattoo you hate and we recommend going into the next decade with a plan to start fresh.
