Unreal ‘The Matrix’ Tattoos
Do you love "The Matrix" movies?
In 1999, one of the greatest science fiction and action films of all time hit theaters—”The Matrix.” “The Matrix” was written and directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, who made their directing debut with 1996’s “Bound.” “The Matrix” is set in a dystopian future where society is unknowingly trapped in a simulated reality known as the matrix. In this simulated reality, which is created by super-intelligent machines, humans are distracted and their bodies are then used as an energy resource. The protagonist, computer programmer Thomas Anderson (a.k.a. Neo) discovers the truth and is compelled to rebel against the machines alongside others who’ve uncovered the reality of the matrix.
Actor Keanu Reeves portrays Neo, following breakout roles in “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and “Speed.” He would reprise his role in the film’s two sequels: 2003’s “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.” Other notable actors from this franchise include Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus (the captain of Nebuchadnezzar), Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity (another human freed from the Matrix) and Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith (the primary antagonist of the film trilogy). This film series is a prime example of the cyberpunk subgenre which flourished during this time, which also included films such as “Blade Runner,” “The Terminator,” “RoboCop,” “Total Recall,” “The Fifth Element” and “Tron.”
A fourth untitled Matrix film is currently in the works, which will be directed and co-written by Lana Wachowski. In this film, Reeves, Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lambert Wilson and Daniel Bernhardt will reprise their roles. Additionally, actors Priyanka Chopra, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff have been cast in undisclosed roles. The film was initially set to be released in May of 2021, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been pushed back to December 22, 2021.
