Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Vincent van Gogh Through Tattoos
Meet the Dutch painter who turned the art world on its head
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who in death became one of the most prolific, recognizable, and controversial artists in world history. During his short career, van Gogh created over 860 oil paintings which included, landscapes, still lifes, and of course, self-portraits. His work was characterized by bold color choices and expressive brush strokes that conveyed nuanced emotions within each piece. His wavering mental health is often brought up when discussing his legacy, as van Gogh severed part of his left ear, spent time in psychiatric hospitals, and ultimately ended his life at the age of 37 with a revolver. And while financially and emotionally successful during his lifetime, van Gogh’s legacy continues to live on and is often replicated by inspired tattoo artists. Take a look at Turkish tattooer Eva KRBDK’s recreation of some of van Gogh’s most iconic paintings in the gallery below, then let us know your favorite van Gogh piece in the comments section.
